What We Believe
Church Road Baptist Church is an assembly of baptized believers in Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord, and it is our collective passion to worship Him, in spirit and truth; to edify His Church by the teaching of His Word and the making and training of disciples to serve His Church for His purposes; and to lead the unsaved of this world to His gift of eternal salvation which He provided through His death on the Cross, His burial and His resurrection.
Church Road Baptist Church subscribes to the “Baptist Faith and Message” as originally adopted by the Southern Baptist Convention in 1925 and revised in 1963 and 2000.
A. A Bible Believing Church – We believe in the inspired Holy Scriptures. They are the very Word of God, without error, and are the sole and final source of all that we believe. They are to be accepted as the final authority in regard to truth, morality and the proper conduct of mankind and are to be obeyed by believers. For purposes of this Church’s faith, doctrine, beliefs, practice, policy and discipline, the Pastor and Deacon Body are the Church’s final human interpretive authority on the meaning and application of the Holy Scriptures. (II Timothy 3:16-17, II Peter 1:19-21)

B. A Christ Honoring Church – We believe that God offers redemption and restoration to all who confess Jesus Christ as their Savior, seek forgiveness of their sin through Jesus Christ and forsake their sin. We believe in the Lordship of Christ. It is this Church’s intention to let Him be the Head of the Body. We believe that in order to preserve the integrity and mission of this Church as the local Body of Christ, and to provide a biblical role model to its members and the local community, it is imperative that all persons employed by this Church in any capacity, or who serve as volunteers, agree to and abide by this Church’s Statement of Faith as stated in this Article of its Constitution. (Matthew 5:16, Acts 3:19-21, Romans 10:9-10, I Corinthians 6:9-11, I Thessalonians 5:22, Ephesians 1:22, 5:23-24, Colossians 1:18)

C. A House of Prayer for All People – We believe that the Church cannot be a respecter of persons as far as its worship is concerned. Therefore, the Church has an open door for all who would come and hear the Gospel provided their presence is not threatening to the Church or disruptive of its worship services. (Acts 10:34, James 2:1-14, Isaiah 56:7, I Thessalonians 3:12, Revelation 22:17)

D. A Serving Church – We believe that the Church exists to serve; to minister rather than to be ministered unto. We believe that every person must be afforded compassion, love, kindness, respect and dignity. (Matthew 20:20-28, Mark 12:28-31, I Corinthians 15:58, Luke 6:31 and 12:48, Galatians 6:9-10)

E. A Commissioned Church – We believe it is our commission from Christ to go into all of the world and to all in the world with His message of Salvation, beginning at Jerusalem (home) and going to the ends of the earth. (Matthew 28:19-20, Mark 16:15, Luke 24:47, Acts 1:8)

F. A Family-Centered Church – We believe in the God-ordained institution of the family and that the family unit is essential to the life of this Church. We believe in God’s design for marriage and the family as clearly stated in the Holy Bible; that marriage can only be between one man and one woman, husband and wife; it is the only accepted sexual relationship, with the husband as head of the family loving his wife as Christ loves the Church and they bringing up their children in the nurture and admonition of the Lord. Thus, this Church will only recognize marriages between a biological man and a biological woman, the Pastor and staff of this Church shall only participate in weddings and solemnize marriages between one man and one woman, and the facilities and property of this Church shall only host weddings between one man and one woman. (Genesis 1:27, 2:24, 5:2, Ephesians 5:25, 6:4)

G. A Church That Affirms God’s Design for Human Sexuality – We believe that God wonderfully and immutably creates each person as male or female. These two distinct, complementary genders together reflect the image and nature of God. We believe that God commands that no intimate sexual activity be engaged in outside of marriage between one man and one woman. We believe that any form of sexual immorality such as adultery, fornication, homosexual behavior, bisexual conduct, bestiality, incest, pornography, or any attempt to change one’s gender is sinful and offensive to God and destructive of the God-ordained institution of the family. (Genesis 1:26-27, Matthew 15:18-20, I Corinthians 6:9-10)

H. A Grace-Filled Church – We believe that the Church exists by the gift of God’s grace which came to the world through Jesus Christ and which demonstrates God’s love for us and His willingness to forgive our sins. As good stewards of this manifold grace of God, we are to attend to the needs of each other with prayer, love and hospitality. (John 1:17, Ephesians 4:7, 2:8, Hebrews 4:16, I Peter 4:8-10)

I. A Church That Affirms the Sanctity of All Human Life – We believe that all human life is sacred and created by God in His image. Human life is of inestimable worth in all its dimensions, including unborn babies, the aged, the physically or mentally challenged, and every other stage or condition from conception through natural death. We are therefore called by God to defend, protect and value all human life. (Psalm 139)

J. A Church That Affirms the Biblical Account of Creation – We believe that the account of the origins of life, mankind, the earth, and the universe presented in the Book of Genesis is a simple but factual presentation of actual events. We believe that all the various original life forms, including mankind, were made by direct creative acts of God. (Genesis 1:1 – 2:25)

K. A Church of Faithful, Responsible Stewards – We believe that God is the Owner of all things and that He has entrusted the individual members of this Church with certain possessions to include time, talent and money; a portion of which is to be used to worship Him, to edify His Church and to lead the unsaved of this world to His gift of eternal salvation. Accordingly, we believe that the members and staff of this Church are to regularly attend worship services and be faithful in tithing that this Church may help accomplish God’s purposes for the Body of Christ. Further, this Church is to be wise and responsible in the use of time, talent and money offered by the individual members and is to set the example of faithful stewardship. (I Corinthians 4:2, I Peter 4:10, Hebrews 10:25, Acts 10:26, Leviticus 27:30, Deuteronomy 14:22, Malachi 3:10)
